What a gem of a place! The building is incredible, I couldn’t believe how spacious it was and there are so many cool details including the triple doors of the prohibition era safe at the back of the main store area and the original tin ceilings!
The service was so warm and friendly and the food was delicious!! I had their sumptuous pumpkin soup, and a to-die-for sandwich and will be going back for some artisanal dishes I saw that were gorgeous in the shop.
I live in a tourist area with many lovely cafes but this place takes the cake and is worth a little road trip. A must-stop cafe if you’re by Renfrew!

Great spot if you want to grab lunch. They offer soup and sandwiches that are very good. You can also check out the bakery and purchase treats and other items at the cash if you don't want to sit down. A very unique spot in the heart of downtown Renfrew.

This is by far the best bakery I have shopped at and I live in southwest Ontario.
1st off the staff are incredibly friendly.
2nd food is impeccable.
3rd they have niche spices, sauces, jams, and gifts to buy.
I am very happy with this business. I was told it is a gem hidden in the Ottawa region.
I recommend going out of your way to visit this store!

Welcome! I'm so glad you're here.
My journey to owning Bonnechere Bakery & Bistro began with a passion for both business and food. After completing my Business Diploma, I joined the Canadian Armed Forces, where I served as a cook. Those years taught me the value of hard work, discipline, leadership, and serving others—lessons that continue to shape the way I run our business today.
Bonnechere Bakery & Bistro has been part of my family's story since 2004, when my mom, Marie Schruder, and my aunt, Maureen, opened the bakery with a dream of creating a place where people could enjoy homemade food and feel genuinely welcomed. I was blessed to become a co-owner in 2016, and in 2020 I took over ownership. Every day, I strive to honour the foundation they built while continuing to grow and improve the business.
I believe food has a unique way of bringing people together. Whether it's a morning coffee, a homemade lunch with friends, a special celebration cake, or simply taking a few minutes to enjoy a fresh pastry, those moments matter. That's why we're committed to making as much as we can from scratch, using quality ingredients and serving every customer with care.
Today, Bonnechere Bakery & Bistro is more than just a bakery—it's a place where people gather, celebrate milestones, and make memories. Through Bonnechere at Home, we've also created a space filled with beautiful home décor, gifts, and locally crafted products that reflect the warmth and character of our community.
As a wife, mom, business owner, and follower of Christ, I'm grateful for the opportunity to serve the people of Renfrew every day. I'm incredibly thankful for the loyal customers, dedicated staff, and supportive community who have been part of our journey.
